Silver snuff box

Edward Farrell, 1823

Silver

X1016

‘Snuff’ is finely ground tobacco leaves, inhaled or sniffed to deliver   a quick hit of nicotine. A fashionable pastime in the 18th and 19th   centuries, snuff was often stored in portable luxury containers like   this. The detailed design on this silver box shows a battle between figures on horseback.
