A. T. Myers was born at Keswick, the son of a clergyman, and educated at Cheltenham and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he took a first-class in classics and a second in natural sciences, captained his College cricket eleven, and played tennis for the University. He did his clinical training at St. George’s Hospital, qualifying as L.S.A. in 1879, and then held house appointments there Myers had the misfortune to suffer from attacks of an epileptic nature and this handicap prevented him from receiving a position on the staff of a teaching hospital. He was, however, physician to the Belgrave Hospital for Children. Psychical research was the chief interest of his short career.
