Join us for a live, unfiltered discussion with a panel of doctors reflecting on their personal experiences from the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic to the NHS today.

‘At a time when consultant and junior doctors are striking, struggling to be heard, to keep their place in patient care, the RCP’s Fortitude exhibition of the extraordinary times during the COVID-19 pandemic is relevant and reflective. We can say, yes, this is what we did. We can ask whether it was enough. We can dare to ask: how much more can you be expected to give?’

- Roopa Farooki, review of the Fortitude exhibition in the Lancet, Nov. 2023.

As the emotive exhibition ‘Fortitude: healthcare workers’ experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic’ draws to a close at the Royal College of Physicians we have invited back doctors who contributed to the exhibition for a live discussion led by oral history officer, Sarah Lowry. Featuring doctors from across England we will consider the memories they shared about the first months of the pandemic, how they feel now looking back, and what has changed in the years since.

The experiences shared may be challenging to hear reflecting on suffering, chaos and exhaustion alongside compassion, courage and joy.

‘I hope that we are listened to after this ends. Not called heroes or angels or clapped for or given badges or medals, listened to.

– Junior doctor, Scotland
