In their own words: doctors and the COVID-19 pandemic
Join us for a live, unfiltered discussion with a panel of doctors reflecting on their personal experiences from the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic to the NHS today.

As the emotive exhibition ‘Fortitude: healthcare workers’ experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic’ draws to a close at the Royal College of Physicians we have invited back doctors who contributed to the exhibition for a live discussion led by oral history officer, Sarah Lowry. Featuring doctors from across England we will consider the memories they shared about the first months of the pandemic, how they feel now looking back, and what has changed in the years since.
The experiences shared may be challenging to hear reflecting on suffering, chaos and exhaustion alongside compassion, courage and joy.

Speakers
Our speakers will include: consultant respiratory physician Dr Tuck-Kay Loke and consultant in general medicine and respiratory Dr Ajitha Jayaratnam from the South-East region, Dr Laura-Jane Smith, consultant respiratory physician in London, and Dr Catherine Monaghan, consultant physician in acute and respiratory medicine in north-east England and Yorkshire, who all gave oral history interviews for our COVID-19 archive.

Pay what you can for your ticket to this interesting event whether joining us in person or online. A drinks reception is included for those joining us in person. All proceeds, will go towards travel and expenses for our speakers who are generously giving their time for this event and to support the ongoing work of the RCP Archives, Heritage Library and Museum.
